The cultural cluster of the Triennale has been hosting diverse formative initiatives organised by schools of architecture, such as the AA’s Visiting School Lisbon seminar, the UAL and ISCTE’s International Colloquium, exhibitions by final-year students of the School of Fine Arts, immersive programs by IADE, or three editions of the Summer School of the University of Western Australia.

In 2022 we hosted the Projecto Relâmpago seminar organised by NucleAR: the student association of Instituto Superior Técnico. For five days, 110 participants occupied the top floor of Palácio Sinel de Cordes. The ongoing rehabilitation of this space worked as an incentive to creation, by the opportunity to establish a greater mutual understanding between a new generation and the Triennale as a cultural organisation. In the words of the student Maria Margarida Rebelo, «the space granted for Projecto Relâmpago, from its surroundings to the Palace itself was the perfect scenario to “live” architecture» and the «diversity of students with different degrees of knowledge and experience helped the development of a better communication practice in architecture.»

The programme included presentations from studios and professionals who go «beyond what is presented to us» and its informality brought attendees and teachers closer together. «The diversity of students with different degrees of knowledge and experience helped the development of a practice of communication in architecture.» This reciprocal learning between participants enrolled from the first to the fifth year of their degree was one of their main benefits, both by the value of working together and by helping each other to manage the time during this ambitious exercise within a short resolution period.

The groups carried out 14 projects around the eastern edge of the consolidated centre of Lisbon. The seminar's programme had the merit of including presentations from ateliers and professionals who go "beyond what is presented to us" and the informality with which it was developed brought students and teachers closer together. The proposals designed a new public space that overlooks the river through new approaches to a territory fragmented by road infrastructures, urban voids and scars in the landscape, without ever forgetting the dialogue with the rich past of this place. The jury highlighted the work of two groups that translate the enthusiasm with which they took up the challenge of the programme.

The week ended with a party in the courtyard at the end of the day, where the Triennale offered each participant and lecturer a set of its publications: the trilogy of the Triennale 2010 catalogues, the four thematic publications of the Triennale 2016 and the Nu Anthology.
