The 2019 Triennale exhibition curated by Sébastien Marot is on a European tour that started at the EPFL Campus Gallery in Lausanne and spanned Brussels, Lyon, Marseille and Grenoble – the capital of the French region of Isère, a stronghold of a long-standing political ecology. In the autumn, it will move to the architecture school in Nantes.
In 2024, five years after its debut in Lisbon, this exhibition remains a key reference for reflecting on ecology and architecture. It depicts the extensive shared history of architecture and agriculture in the genesis of human sedentarisation. Highlighting their sudden separation during the Industrial Revolution, it demonstrates the urgency of rethinking these disciplines together in light of the current environmental impasse.
After selling out the original book’s two print runs of 1600 copies each, an expanded French version titled Prendre la Clef des Champs from publisher Wildproject and supported by l’École d’architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est / Université Gustave-Eiffel will be published on 6 September 2024. Pre-orders (9th to 21st July) include an A3 poster and reduced shipping costs.
“With the concise resource of this book, with its intelligent references and footnotes, the reader is able to start to make their own ways towards this hopeful future.”
