Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa

Triennale on board at the 1st Rede EPA meeting

On Monday, January 24, 2022, the launch meeting of a new network dedicated to Education through Architecture took place. In the form of a conference with thematic sessions and multiple participants, this first meeting aimed to understand the state of the art of education in architecture in the Portuguese context.

With a hybrid format and online transmission for those who wished to follow, educational projects were presented by several Portuguese cultural bodies that highlight the importance of built space education, including the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.

Filipa Tomaz, Joana Martins and Letícia do Carmo represented the Triennale's educational service by participating in the panel entitled Educação & Arquitectura - Referências Nacionais: Práticas educativas no contexto cultural (Education & Architecture - National References: Educational practices in the cultural context), together with Casa da Arquitectura. The participation of the Triennale was an opportunity to unveil the diversity of activities continuously carried out, such as the creation of workshop visits to exhibitions hosted by the cultural cluster where we are based (Palácio Sinel de Cordes), the creation of an accessible tactile publication for blind children, as well as the development of a volunteer programme within the annual event Open House Lisboa.

You can see here the video recording of this presentation and debate hosted on the platform of the Ministry of Education’s DGEstE.

The network is now a means of disseminating projects, investigations, publications and participating actions around education in architecture for schools and the general public. This aims to create a national database of educational agents, investigations, recreational materials, participating projects or training courses in architecture. Organized by CCB – Garagem Sul and A+A Project: Art and Architecture for kids, the meeting is part of the National Plan for the Arts and was supported by the Triennale.

There was also room for a leap across borders with interventions by specialists from Spain who presented educational projects and leading professionals whose testimonies you can listen to here.

A new cycle is thus initiated to promote a closer positioning on the side of cultural agents operating in the area of mediation, creating a nationwide cooperation platform.
