Born in Lisbon in 1968, Ana Vaz Milheiro acquired a Doctorate in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Universidade de São Paulo. Her thesis was entitled “Imenso Portugal – Culturas Arquitectónicas Portuguesa e Brasileira. Um diálogo a três tempos” and was published by the Universidade do Porto under the title A Construção do Brasil – Relações com a Cultura Arquitectónica Portuguesa (Porto: FAUP Publicações, 2005). A qualified architect and the holder of a Master’s degree in Contemporary Architectural Culture from the FAUTL (the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa) with a dissertation entitled “O Gótico e os Sistemas de Desenho presentes na Arquitectura Oitocentista. Produções teóricas europeias e a recensão portuguesa na obra escrita de Possidónio da Silva” (1992 and 1998, respectively)”. She is also a lecturer in the History and Theory of Architecture at the ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa - and the Universidade Autónoma and the author of A Minha Casa é um Avião, Lisbon, Relógio d’Água, 2007. The assistant editor of JA-Jornal Arquitectos between 2000-2004 and 2009-2011, she has also been the architecture critic for Público newspaper since 1995. Between 2005 and 2007, she held various editorial coordination roles for the publications of the Association of Architects – National Board of Directors. She is currently preparing for post-doctoral research at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidade do Porto.
