Rijeka is the second city showcasing the exhibition Lisbon Act
The exhibition Lisbon Acts, an original commission by the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, is opening in Croatia on 28 May 2019 in anticipation of Rijeka’s term as the Capital of Culture in 2020. This new presentation results from the invitation of one member of the Future Architecture Platform and a local cultural agent, gathering a rising generation of Lisbon-based practitioners. The travelling exhibition highlights six Portuguese architectural projects by Aspa, Barbas Lopes, Can Ran, Miguel Marcelino, PLCO and Site Specific, which are the starting point for a short film, a book and a series of photographs commissioned from emerging Portuguese authors.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Triennale (2007-2018) and the transformation of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon Acts selected a significant project from each architectural studio: a golden tower block, a bar in a garden, an intervention on a river boat station, a meditation centre, a church and a private apartment. This diverse selection of architectural works then became the settings for Patrícia Portela’s collection of short stories entitled Floraennui; Catarina Botelho’s series of photographs entitled Filomena Project; and Pedro Cabeleira’s short film (14 minutes) that shows the daily life of Filomena as it unfolds the selected spaces. All of these artworks together comprise the exhibition.
Lisbon Acts premiered at BINA - Belgrade International Architecture Week in May 2018. Now, one year later, it is reinstated in Rijeka at the old building of IVEX Factory, which was transformed into a cultural venue in the beginning of the millennium. With a population around 150 thousand inhabitants, Rijeka is the third-largest city in the country and its importance as a cultural hub is growing.
Lisbon Acts exhibition is a transdisciplinary approach to present, with spaces that are in a way very beautiful, sophisticated but still full of daily life and real people. And this is all that architecture should be about, living spaces and buildings for real life and real people. Danica Jovović Prodanović, BINA team.
