The initial project for the Port of Lisbon Authority’s, developed within Duarte Pacheco’s urban plan for Lisbon, provided for a connection to Gare Marítima do Cais da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos through a gallery covered by a terrace, like a monumental balcony over the river. Due to costs, this example of Modern architecture in the Estado Novo period was substantially reduced and over the years went through successive changes with the introduction of other functions. The decision to install the Board of Directors here appears to be a new layer in the history of the building, with the installation of offices with an open, fluid and contemporary design.
