About the Place
Set within a ‘rabo de bacalhau’ building (a type of deep-set structure characteristic of Lisbon’s mid-20th-century urban expansion), this apartment was reorganised to improve natural light and its relationship with the street. The original layout placed living areas at the rear and bedrooms on the main façade. The project maintains the overall structure, demolishing as little as possible, while reversing this logic: the living, dining and kitchen areas now face the street and form an open-plan space, creating a more spacious feel. A continuous joinery element that conceals cupboards, doors and a pantry links the entrance hall, kitchen and corridor, becoming a defining feature of the apartment.
