Integrated into the conventional grid of Avenidas Novas, this illustration of the Movement for the Renewal of Religious Art is part of a large parish complex that is inconspicuous to passers-by. The street that runs through it creates an unanticipated public space, beckoning visitors to enter a churchyard where architecture and the city converge. Disrupting religious tradition, the model of the early Roman church was reclaimed, strengthening the relationship between the religious space and the surrounding community. This connection is amplified by the stark and urban character that the exposed concrete imparts. The church is astonishing for those who enter and encounter a monumental volume, with nuances of refinement in the work of spatiality, details, and light.
