This project contrasts with the urban flow and the square, both drawn in the Alvalade Plan. It articulates the intersection of road traffic with the cardinal construction of collective housing blocks. It was originally influenced by the plan of housing units developed in the Modern Movement, but built with commerce on the ground floor and housing on the remaining floors. It is one of Lisbon’s most relevant urban complexes, due to the modernity underlying the design of the parallelism, repetition and architectural typifying of the blocks, as well as the exploration of their formal and linguistic dimensions, including the rise of the building fronts on pillars and the modularity of the façade. We can visit two duplex flats with different solar and urban exposures, a workspace on the protruding ground floor, and the rooftop. These are, respectively, a recently renovated housing space, another one that was transformed before it was first inhabited, a workspace, a former printing company to which office, bookstore and gallery functions have now been added, as well as the rooftop, on the thirteenth floor, with panoramic views of Lisbon.
