Camarim studio

A shop in an early 21st-century residential building which hosted a bank agency for many years has recently been converted into an architecture studio. The large shop window overlooking the Campo Grande garden plays the role of a broad window, letting through natural light and a view of the trees. Inside the studio, the main spaces are separated by glass brick partitions with the weight and thickness of a traditional wall, allowing views and light. The necessary infrastructure has been installed above the circulation and peripheral spaces, to free the main areas in their whole width and, above all, height. The secondary spaces, aligned along a corridor in an invisible widening of the shop, present little light, intensifying the chiaroscuro effect. Thus, the space’s ambiance varies according to daylight and its orientation, dark and hard as stone at dawn, soft and bright as rice paper at dusk.
