Museum of Lisbon – Roman Theatre

  • Interventions:
  • Daniela Ermano ,
  • João Carrasco
  • (2015 reabilitação)

Located in the castle hill, a visit here provides a trip back in time to the beginning of the 1st century AD. The activity of the museum is centred on discovering and understanding the ruins of the Roman Theatre that was abandoned in 4 AD, and rediscovered after the 1755 earthquake during the Pombaline reconstruction. In the 21st century, a small museum cluster was created, and in the meantime it has expanded, integrating the Museum of Lisbon, in 2015, with a wider scope. Along the museum route, which begins with a surprising view of the city, the downward journey reveals the Roman ruins and other places appropriated by the museum itself, such as a 17th century building and a large industrial space from the late 19th century.
