The 12th edition, 2023

Time Matters
Long-time inhabitants of Lisbon, perhaps you have never looked at the architectures that shape you daily as the living entities that they also are. But what if you do, what if you realise that they too have a before and after? Where were they before where they are now? And where do they go when we abandon them?
This edition proposes a drift that reveals the birth, life, decline and rebirth of the buildings we inhabit. It shows you that, if you look closely, most have already had several lives, deaths and authors who rescued them, and that it is just about impossible to find blank pages nowadays. The city as a complex ecosystem of architectures, uses and flows has always allowed various moments of the life cycle to coexist: Void, in Construction, Building and Ruin.
Embaixada are the curators of the 12th edition
The Lisbon-based architecture studio Embaixada was created in 2002 is currently led by three of its founders: Cristina de Mendonça, Nuno Griff and Paulo Albuquerque Goinhas.
Their team integrates practitioners from various parts of the world in a dynamic hierarchy, creating room for discussion, a strong creative potential, and ample adaptability to diversity. This group is driven by the ambition to respond in an unprecedented way to the requirements of contemporary living. Each work is developed as a prototype for the future, whether for public or private entities, competitions, exhibitions or lectures, all over the world.
