This small palace was built at the end of the 19th century, by António José Gomes, on the grounds of the old Quinta da Piedade, one of the famous “seven farms” of Alfeite at the origin of a Portuguese popular expression. Its facade overlooks the town’s main square and its church, highlighting a contemporary urbanity, typical of the rising bourgeoisie of the period, with its eclectic language. The building currently houses the headquarters of Sociedade Filarmónica União Artística Piedense (SFUAP), a society founded with the support of António José Gomes. The contrast between the embellished interior and its current function as a music school is notable and surprising.
