This neighbourhood is considered a landmark development in the modern movement in Portugal. It proposed housing blocks raised off the ground to allow for circulation and conviviality in the green spaces on the ground level through which one accessed each apartment block. This particular intervention set out to achieve an integral renovation of the apartment, adapting to modern ways of living a recreating the relationships between the interior and the gardens so characteristic of the urban plan for the neighbourhood by reinstating the original balconies. The wooden floor in both the kitchen and the bathrooms unifies the space and provides an image of continuity to the dwelling. The bedroom area is defined and organised by a new element – a spacious closet – that serves to equip and structure the various spaces in the apartment, creating a large storage space (a fundamental element in the programme).
