In the 1940s, the owner of the Nacional brand, CIPC – Companhia Industrial de Portugal e Colónias, decided to build a modern complex to bring together in one place its various factories spread around Lisbon. The first phase of the project included the construction of silos, flour mills and storage areas. The pasta and biscuit factories were begun in the early 1960s, as was a hard wheat mill. In 1999 Cerealis purchased the Nacional brand and integrated this important industrial complex into its assets; in 2012 it invested in its modernisation and specialisation in flour production. Today, the complex remains a fundamentally important hub of the national milling industry.
