Chagas Apartment

This flat is part of a listed building, built in the late 19th century and located between Chiado and Santa Catarina neighbourhoods. Fifteen years after a rehabilitation work that compromised its original features, the most recent intervention intended to give back to the flat a certain past aura through solutions that prioritised the elements embellishing and highlighting the dwelling. Its uniqueness is visible in the stained-glass windows facing a central inner patio that crosses the whole building, lit by a large skylight. The original ceiling has been restored, and artificial lighting was concealed in mouldings. Part of the furniture is custom designed, namely the shelves, beds, and coat stand. The decoration emphasises the space, opting for the lightness of the objects. The dining room’s backdrop is a handmade tile panel, both flat and three-dimensional, designed by Maria Ana Vasco Costa.
