Alto da Eira Community Garden
About the Place
Horta Alto da Eira is a social, environmental, cultural and experimental project. At its heart lies the creation and maintenance of a sustainable community garden, built and cultivated by the hands of those who come together each week. The garden comprises a woodland area with dozens of trees and wild berry bushes, ten vegetable-growing terraces, a communal area, a pond, a windmill, a greenhouse, storage facilities, a communal wood-fired oven, a solar oven and a dehydrator, as well as a shelter that can be used as a classroom. The garden also serves as an educational, social, cultural and environmental centre, with various projects currently underway.
