House in Restelo

The Encosta da Ajuda Plan was implemented in the 1940s and 1950s. The consolidation of the southern area of the Restelo quarter is owed to the preservation of detached or terraced housing typologies and the growth of green areas. The two pre-existing levels of the land became structuring in the organisation of the house spaces, access, garden and pool. The perception of volumetric work starts from the street, by distinguishing between the corten steel elements—on the ground floor and the wall—and the upper floors, in white concrete. The design of the possibility of complete house closure is revealed in the constructive solutions found and in the depth of the openings of the upper floors. This is a constructional synthesis project, with control over the stereotomy resulting from the concrete formwork, in which different exterior openings and closing elements bring variations of light and shadow to the interior use of space. It was an Honourable Mention of the 2015 Valmor Prize.
