The building is located on the east side of Avenida da Liberdade. Since its creation in the 19th century, which implied the extension of a previously existing public path, this avenue has been the most important connection between downtown and upper Lisbon. The profile of the built volumes throughout the avenue varies from high-end edifices or palatial houses with 3 or 4 floors, to office buildings and hotels with 8 to 12 floors, built in the late 20th century. This project’s major challenge was to maintain the original facade, while inscribing an updated language in the building’s design. The restoration of the interiors brought the building into the present and avoided patch up solutions. Textile materials introduce their own language — folds, pleats and hems that create a comfortable and welcoming common space.
