Also known as the “Sul e Sueste” station, this ferry station is located close to the representative Praça do Comércio and the Cais das Colunas. Two elegant terminals rise side by side. The original building served ferry passengers for the rail connection to Southern Portugal up until 1999, the year in which trains began crossing the 25 April Bridge. Opened in 2011, the new terminal increased the capacity and improved access to this public transport interface. It stands out for its façade that pays homage to the Art Déco inspiration of the neighbouring building and for the interior tiling work by the Can Ran design team, which was a finalist for the European Urban Public Space Prize. It now serves thousands of passengers every day, providing connection to the nearby Terreiro do Paço metro station.
