About the Place
Claus Porto is a Portuguese artisanal soap brand whose 130-year history served as inspiration for the design of its first store in Lisbon. The intervention focused on conserving and restoring the existing structures. The old shop interior consisted of two spaces on different levels that were linked by a flight of stairs; both spaces could be accessed directly from the exterior and from two different streets. The space opening onto Rua da Misericórdia was for many years a pharmacy, from which it inherited its wood-framed vitrines lining the walls and the ceiling decorated with white stucco featuring geometric and botanical designs.
