A work of reference of Modernist architecture produced in the 1980s, this education centre is an exceptional example of late Brutalist architecture, designed by Rui de Sousa Cardim for disabled children. The architectonic solution is characterized by a two-storey concrete structure, similar to a ziggurat, which plays with organicist geometry in order to create singularly relaxed and monumental atmospheres, articulated among themselves by walk ways and multipurpose spaces. This educational infrastructure is seamlessly integrated in the ensemble for the role it plays, for the thoughtfulness with which the interior spaces were designed and because it is a remarkable public infrastructure project. For these reasons, the building was distinguished with the Valmor Prize in 1987.
