About the Place
In a neighbourhood currently in transformation, and on a wine and olive oil warehouse from the year 1906 which has undergone several alterations in accordance with functional demands, this intervention is adapted to the pre-existing elements. Keeping the identity of the two original volumes, and having considerable impact because of the generous scale, the gallery is divided into two separate areas in the spaces. Without making the architecture the enemy of the function it serves, the intervention by the architects Filipe Guedes Cruz and Marco Charters Monteiro creates spaces to receive art without exploiting the art, reflecting a quest for a balanced and compatible relationship.
