In 2017 the Atelier Data transformed and adapted a space that had formerly served as a jewellery shop. The project intended to develop new dynamics, better suited to an architecture studio, while maintaining elements of the initial construction. Therefore, memories of the ancient place still linger in the entrance hall: the walls reveal the centenary structure of the Pombaline cage; the existing hydraulic mosaic was kept on the pavement; the wooden ceilings and fixed furniture were restored. In the office room there is a large horizontal open space, its structure supported by metal profiles, to maximize the connection between the interior and the exterior. This generous open space improved the ventilation and lightning conditions, and improved the original design by shifting the attention to the patio’s vertical garden, enveloping the remains of an old well. In this way, the current space is the result of the combination of extensive alterations with some existing structures, endowing it with a particular atmosphere and celebrating the history of the place.
