About the Place
The ongoing construction in the Santos District transforms a small one-storey house into a vertical volume that adjusts to the adjacent buildings. Reversing the expected organisation, the bedrooms are placed on the lower floors and the social area at the highest point, where the view opens out over the city. Each floor has only one function – studio, guests, sleeping, living and reading – each with a different spatial organisation that crowns in a roof garden. Its construction is an open process, where the properties of the materials are yet to be defined, for the time being without a specific colour or finish. All this will be improvised, explored, and interpreted during the work, together with plasterers, bricklayers, carpenters and clients, following Miles Davis’s ‘In improvisation, there are no mistakes’.
