his museum is located at the Rua da Junqueira. It is accessed through a residential building and develops around a garden. The history of the city of Macau as a maritime port and the historical connections between Portugal and China are the museum’s central themes. The exhibition space has two main areas: the first showcases the history and culture of 16th and 17th century Macau; the second a collection of Chinese art, displaying more than 3500 pieces in terracotta, textiles and porcelain. The use of opium as a hallucinogenic drug is also contextualised by a number of material artefacts. There is also an extensive library specialized in the interconnections between Europe and Asia and the Contemporary History of China and Macau.
