The refurbishment of this apartment, a typical specimen of the urban arrangement established in the opening of Avenida Almirante Reis (Avenida D. Amélia at the time) in 1903, in a former agricultural area in Lisbon, keeps its identity but concedes to a contemporary living. As was common at the time, the extremely subdivided spaces had no hierarchy, and could function as bedrooms, living room or dining area. The intervention divides the social area from the private one and reduces the corridor. A dialogue is thus maintained between the existing (social) and the intervention (private). The recovered doors in the social space contrast with the proposed pine coating that hides the bedroom doors and makes the hallway more intimate. The rooms are connected through a delicate open fireplace based on a stone bench that also serves as a base for the cupboard.
