House in Castelo

  • Interventions:
  • Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos ,
  • Manuel Aires Mateus
  • (2012 reabilitação)

It is one of the six houses designed in the Contador-Mor palace next to the castle. Taking up the experience of the 17th century palace, the intervention has favoured the functional requirements of 21st century housing. The architectural language was based on restoring the character of the building, which had been distorted by successive alterations and years of neglect. The absence of housing types that are still visible led to a change in the morphology and distribution of the interior space. The spatial dynamics adapted to a more plural programme of use, with the awareness of reflecting the influence of the pre-existing architectural object.Subsequently, a site-specific sculpture by the artist Pedro Cabrita Reis was added, running through the space and creating a dialogue between art and architecture.
