About the Place
Located on the border between Arroios and Penha de França, in a building with traces of modernist architecture from the time of the first neighbourhoods built in the area. The intervention consisted of preserving the original features and typology with neutral tones, highlighting the kitchen and bathroom as the main characters in the bridge between old and new. The wooden floors, the doors and handles, the height of the ceilings, the skirting boards and the mouldings of the period have all been preserved, thus honouring the memory of these elements. The kitchen stands out for its simple, pragmatic solutions, close to the language of traditional Portuguese architecture, in which the stone fireplace, an essential and typical element, has also been retained and integrated with the more contemporary furniture.
