Rua das Gaivotas 6 – Praga Theatre

  • Interventions:
  • Artéria
  • (2015 reabilitação)

Located in the old Alarcão Palace and dating back to the 16th century, in the tangle of the central and still heavily residential area of Santa Catarina, Teatro Praga occupies the former premises of a deactivated school. Known as Escola das Gaivotas, since it had been a primary school for about 50 years, the old palace now hosts new uses. Pólo das Gaivotas was installed on the main floors, and Teatro Praga occupied the palace’s door number 6, becoming a place for presentations of performing arts, visual arts, conferences, literature, cinema and workshops. The renovation sought to create continuity with the building where it is located, reflecting a great desire to adapt, improvise and interact with the city.
