About the Place
Two small 18th-century apartments, each facing a different street in opposite directions, combine to form a single space. The identity and simple materials of the existing spaces are preserved, and strategic demolitions allow for a profound change in the flow of domestic life. The kitchen is repositioned in the heart of the apartment, between the living room and the private spaces, defined as the home’s central space. In the living room, the previous presence of a dividing wall is highlighted through a pillar and wooden beam. The minimum gesture for structural integrity affirms the natural temporality of the supporting element. The flexibility of the new layout allows for a constant flow of air, light and life, celebrating the informality of the city.
