About the Place
Located between Convento do Grilo and Hub Criativo do Beato, Now Beato is a coworking space installed in a former wine and olive oil warehouse. NOW, an acronym for No Office Work, provides a personalised experience to each user. The original construction system of this three-storey building defines a substantial part of its identity. Thick masonry walls, arched on the ground floor, support a timber structure of cross beams, and the rhythm of the wooden trusses defines the roof. The rehabilitation project respected and enhanced these attributes and washed away all the unqualified interventions carried out over the decades. Demolition and new construction were minimised, and new openings sought to bring more natural light into the interior. Inside, the textures and colours of the ageing materials are embraced, bringing the new elements closer to what already existed.
