NOW Beato

  • (2019 (reab.))

NOW Beato is a co-working space that brings new life to the Beato 1904 building, fostering diversity, openness and collaboration. NOW stands for No Office Work and translates the profound changes in how we currently work, learn and live. This building is located between the Convento do Grilo and the Beato Creative Hub. Formerly, it was as an olive oil and wine warehouse that benefited from its proximity to the docks to load and unload the food supplies which were transported by boat. The three-story building was converted into a space for services, but maintained its original materials and spatial structure. The construction takes advantage of the unevenness between the Rua da Manutenção and the Rua do Grilo, allowing the upper floor to open directly to the higher street. This floor houses Manicómio, a project born in March 2019 that aims to demystify the stigma associated with mental illness, encouraging the employability of patients and promoting their social inclusion.
