About the Place
Between 1920 and 1940, Joaquim Norte Júnior designed a set of three buildings in the vicinity of Avenida da Liberdade, establishing a transition between the romantic decorativism of the early century and the assertively modernist formal depuration. Taking advantage of the interior part of the block, the first one to be designed configures a semi-public passage that connects Rua Rodrigues Sampaio to Rua Camilo Castelo Branco through a private crossing. In 2013, Atelier Ventura Trindade acquired the square-shaped warehouse and reconfigured it. The project renewed the openings facing the patio and adapted the infrastructure to its new use as an architecture studio, preserving the foundational character marked by the presence of a beam structure and pillars in reinforced concrete that organise the different work areas in the studio.
