Atelier-Museum Júlio Pomar

  • Álvaro Siza
  • (2012 reabilitação)

The renovation of a former warehouse is located in a central area that is undergoing a major transformation in terms of functions, demographics and land use – Bairro Alto. Behind the inconspicuous façade is the Municipal Museum, managed by EGEAC, dedicated to the archiving and promotion of the work of the painter Júlio Pomar. The restoration, which focuses on the formal and spatial details characteristic of Álvaro Siza’s work, preserves the interpretation of the existing building in its main components: volume, load-bearing walls and roof. The modest complex has an outdoor patio and a two-storey building with a large central body containing an exhibition area, two reserves, service areas, an office, an auditorium and a reception area.
