About the Place
This museum is housed in a former warehouse on a narrow street off Rua dos Poiais de São Bento. It sits in a central area of Lisbon that has undergone significant changes in terms of its functions, patterns of occupation and residents. Owned by the Municipality of Lisbon and managed by EGEAC Lisboa Cultura, the building behind its anonymous façade preserves and presents the work of the painter Júlio Pomar. Álvaro Siza Vieira’s rehabilitation project retained the building’s main features: its volume, structural walls and roof. The museum is organised around a central exhibition space spanning two floors and also incorporates storage areas, an auditorium, offices, service areas and an outdoor courtyard.
