Panorâmico de Monsanto

  • Original Authors:
  • Chaves da Costa
  • (1968)

No view over Lisbon can match that from the Panorâmico de Monsanto. Built at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, the building opened in 1968 and has served as a fine dining restaurant, a nightclub, a bingo hall, not to mention stints as office space and a store for building materials. Now empty for more than a decade, this outstanding work of architecture features in its interior ceramic panels by Manuela Madureira and a mural by Luís Dourdil. For now, Lisbon City Council aims to ensure that the building is safe and can be visited by all, thus returning this belvedere to the city and its residents.
