Verride Palácio de Santa Catarina

The old Palacete de Santa Catarina Palace, with its privileged location in a square sometimes referred to as Adamastor (alluding to the statue in the adjacent garden), has given way to the Hotel Verride. Verride is the name of the Count who lived there from 1910 onwards and was responsible for transforming an 18th-century building rented by floors into a palace. He installed a curved and sumptuous staircase of Parisian influence in the entrance hall and, on the first floor, he conceived a piano nobile, choosing eclectic decoration in stucco, wood, tiles, and built-in furniture. These exquisitely restored elements contribute to its regal aura. The project to transform the palace and turn it into a luxury hotel, which started in 2009, is extraordinarily sensible in adapting it to the new programme, where the refined design takes on a contemporary feel and shows profound respect for the existing building. The final ensemble comprises highly diversified spaces that coexist harmoniously and fluidly.
