About the Place
The reinvention of an urban plaza. This project sought to achieve a new balance in the plaza’s already established functions and to promote the use of the public space as a place of relaxation and leisure over its use as a parking lot. The large open space has been turned into a platform that unites the two sections of Estrada de Benfica separated by the motorway viaduct, allowing for continuous pedestrian circulation from east to west. A new relationship between the Fonte Nova shopping centre and the neighbouring services and commercial buildings was defined, with the aim of supporting local business.
