This building was the private house of Gustavo Matos Sequeira, a prominent politician, journalist and writer born in Lisbon. On the second half of the 20th century, it was bought by José Sommer Ribeiro, an architect and the director of the Museum of Modern Art for a decade, who occupied it as if it were a museum, such is the quality of the paintings hanging on its walls. It currently belongs to Richard Clarke, a family member of Sommer Ribeiro which shares the same professional activity and with whom he designed the Vieira da Silva Museum.
