Baixa-Chiado
Expert/Guide: Ricardo Carvalho
This tour looks at contemporary construction projects in the historic fabric in recent years and their relationship with the heritage dimension – an all-important theme. The new interventions in the public space seek to adapt the city to new uses, existing side by side with the density of architectural heritage sites. A number of exemplary architectural works will be highlighted in the tour for endeavouring to create a new centrality – be it cultural or infrastructural. The tour will take in the following new works, to name just a few: Campo das Cebolas; the elevator network for access to the Castelo de São Jorge; Terraços do Carmo by Álvaro Siza; and the gardens of the new Cruise Terminal.
