The Strait of Ferdinand Magellan

Exhibition

Saturday and Sunday 10am - 7pm  Plus

The NRP Sagres has a long and rich history even before its sails bear the Cross of the Order of Christ. It begins its life in the German Navy in 1937 and goes to the United States as war indemnity and even stops in the Brazilian Navy before to become the main training ship of the Portuguese Navy. One of his many oceanic adventures is the motto for the exhibition “The Strait of Ferdinand Magellan”, which includes 25 photographs taken during the last circumnavigation of the ship in its passage through the strait. The discovery of this passage by the first circumnavigator, Ferdinand Magellan, would prove the connection between the Atlantic Ocean and the ocean it baptized as the Pacific. The images were collected during the Regatta to Celebrate the Bicentennial of the Independence of Latin American Countries, held in 2010.
