Ghost Kitchen in a City Shell
Performance/Debate
'Ghost Kitchen in a City Shell' is a performative conversation in long-table format, bringing together anthropology and architecture to think about the city through ghost kitchens as invisible infrastructures. Drawing on the notion of hauntology as explored by Mark Fisher, and the cyberpunk narrative of Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell — where the question of the human is central — it interrogates presences, mediations and invisibilities in contemporary cities and kitchens. The event proposes a reflection on 'ghost' — the spectral, anonymous aura of these kitchens, which operate through delivery platforms despite the existence of a physical space — and 'dark', an ill-fitting adjective, as though these kitchens were a secret to be kept hidden. Seated at the table, with food, participants are invited to interrogate the displacement of the kitchen — an affective domestic space — into a spectral logistical system in which consumers and workers alike remain anonymous. As counterpoint, Gordon Matta-Clark's film 'FOOD' presents the kitchen in black and white: simultaneously domestic and experimental, collective and marginal, a space that enacts and redraws the city.
